“New ‘Star Wars’ Film to Rebuild the Jedi Order, Filming to Begin Next Year”

Disney has recently confirmed that three new “Star Wars” movies will be released from 2026 to 2027. Additionally, there are other “Star Wars” films currently in development. Actress Daisy Ridley, who plays “Rey” Skywalker, stated that the movie she stars in will begin filming in 2025. In this film, she will be “rebuilding a new Jedi warrior group.”

It has been almost five years since the last Star Wars film, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), and fans are eagerly anticipating new Star Wars stories on the big screen. Recently, Disney confirmed in its third-quarter investor presentation that three new “Star Wars” films will be released in 2026 and 2027. However, there is little information available about these movies and no story details have been confirmed yet.

According to ScreenRant, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau of “Iron Man” and “The Mandalorian,” will premiere on May 22, 2026. The other two unnamed Star Wars films are set to be released on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027, respectively.

The untitled new Jedi warrior film slated for release in December 2026 is expected to star Daisy Ridley. In June, Ridley revealed on the “SmartLess” podcast that the progress on the film is very exciting, and she will soon be reading the script to start filming next year.

The story of the new Jedi warrior film takes place 15 years after “The Rise of Skywalker,” with Ridley reprising her role as “Rey” Skywalker. She is set to lead the rebuilding of a new Jedi warrior group as a central character in the first part of the new “Star Wars” trilogy announced by Lucasfilm. The film will be directed by female director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Regarding the untitled film set to be released in December 2027, it may be one of the other two parts of the new “Star Wars” trilogy. It could be produced by Dave Filoni, writer/producer of “The Mandalorian,” or by James Mangold, director of “Logan.”

The Direct reported that due to Mangold currently working on a Bob Dylan biopic and preparing to direct DC Studios’ “Swamp Thing” film, Filoni’s Star Wars film is more likely to be released in late 2027. The film is expected to depict the escalating war between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant.

As for the latest news on the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm announced the schedule for the “Disney D23 Ultimate Fan Celebration” Star Wars event from August 9 to 11, 2024. There may be an announcement regarding new Star Wars film content at the event in Anaheim, California.

In addition to the aforementioned Star Wars films, ScreenRant reported that director Shawn Levy, known for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” hinted that his script for a “Star Wars” film is tailored to specific actors. There are rumors suggesting that Ridley will also return in some capacity in this movie, but the timeline and background of the film are currently uncertain.
