New President of Northern California Taiwanese Association Takes Office, Digital Overseas Leaders Express Gratitude

On September 22nd, the Northern California Taiwanese Association (52nd session) held the inauguration ceremony for the new president in San Leandro, East Bay. Dozens of overseas Chinese leaders and fellow countrymen gathered to witness and show their support. Huang Guihua was appointed as the new president.

Former President Zhang Zhengbang first expressed his gratitude to the predecessors and fellow countrymen. He mentioned that he has been in the Bay Area for over 20 years, joined the Taiwanese Association in 2021, and became the president in 2023.

During his tenure, Zhang described it as a very special journey in his life. He had the opportunity to serve the Taiwanese-American community in the Bay Area, learning and improving while experiencing more joy and inclusiveness. The new president will continue to speak up for Taiwan and work hard for the next generation of Taiwanese-Americans.

The newly appointed president, Huang Guihua, expressed her surprise and gratitude in an interview with Dajiyuan. She said, “I have received many congratulations and it feels like winning the lottery. I have served in the senior association before, but the recent contact with the joint association feels more unfamiliar to me.”

She stated that while feeling nervous, she is also confident because she found that the management duties of the joint association have been well established. For example, there are dedicated overseas Chinese leaders who help plan and operate many activities held every year. She can blend in and learn at the same time.

Ms. Chen Wenyi, who served as vice president for two consecutive years, told Dajiyuan that she will now serve as the secretary general. As someone who oversees young children in the association, she has a deep affection for the joint association and is filled with gratitude.

Chen Wenyi and overseas Chinese leaders reviewed the highlights of the past year’s activities, such as the Lunar New Year gala in February, the mainstream event at the Hong Kong Community Center Fair in March, the welcome dinner for former Vice President Chen Chien-jen on September 7th, and a series of events they have organized including “Supporting Taiwan’s UN Membership,” the beneficial “Multi-Generational Book Club,” fundraising for the Hualien earthquake relief, and a family-friendly summer BBQ, among many other colorful activities.

Finally, several overseas Chinese leaders sincerely thanked everyone present and those who could not attend. They took a group photo together, capturing a harmonious and joyful moment.
