“My Mother-in-Law 2” Debuts with High Ratings, Mayday’s Ashin Joins the Drama Craze

The Taiwan family comedy “Why Is My Mother-in-Law So Adorable” aired its first and second episodes of the second season on the 4th. Many netizens were delighted to see the original cast reunited and exclaimed, “Still as funny as ever!” Even Mayday’s Ashin couldn’t resist leaving a comment, “I’m at a concert and can’t watch, where can I catch up?” This sparked a wave of netizens sharing information about the broadcast.

This excitement even led Ashin’s fan, Zhong Xinling, to exclaim, “Idol! So moving!”

The second season of “My Mother-in-Law 2” premiered on PTS with a viewership reaching as high as 640,600, with the peak point in viewership during the marriage proposal scene of the “Ouyue CP” played by Huang Peijia and Zhang Shuwei.

In this season, the two work together to expand their bakery business. At the grand opening celebration, chaos ensues when a mouse appears and to calm the wealthy guests’ panic, Huang Peijia publicly kneels down to propose: “Will you marry me and spend the rest of your life with me?” Zhang Shuwei emotionally accepts, “Of course, I will!” The first episode successfully averts disaster and ends with a double joyous occasion.

On the night of the premiere, producer Chen Huiling, director Deng Anning, and main actors Zhong Xinling, Darren Chiu Kaiwei, Wang Shaowei, Yang Mingwei, and Su Yanpei went live together to chat with netizens about their thoughts on the show and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Wang Shaowei was dubbed as the “most challenging scene partner” as he often ad-libs lines, causing everyone to burst into laughter. Zhong Xinling jokingly remarked, “You’ve gotten old and still love to ad-lib!” to which Wang Shaowei jokingly retorted, “You’re mistaken, I am Honduras now,” causing uproarious laughter.

Zhong Xinling admitted that watching the premiere was both nerve-wracking and joyous, appreciating the cute and creative moments that the audience enjoyed. The chemistry among all the actors in the second season has improved, but she pointed out the most challenging part for her was playing a scene where she had to anxiously eat cookies when she heard her mother-in-law was coming, showing panic while keeping the plate in front of her full.

Director Deng Anning added that this scene was indeed challenging as Zhong Xinling had to deliver her lines, pay attention to where her hands should be, and maneuver the plates, making what seems like a funny scene actually quite complex.

Actor Yang Mingwei, who plays Su Bingren, the third son of the Su family, revealed that his character would undergo a significant life change this season. When asked by netizens during the live stream about Bingren’s health, Yang jokingly replied, “Physically healthy, but mentally unhealthy,” and shared that he gained 8 kilograms to portray Bingren’s wastrel character in the first season.

Zhong Xinling immediately chimed in, mentioning that she also gained weight up to 80 kilograms to play a “useless mom,” to which her daughter on the side teased, “You weigh more than 80 kilograms,” prompting her to quickly stop her and exclaim, “Don’t say that!” causing everyone present to burst into laughter.
