Recently, the 31-year fugitive murderer Li from Dalian, Liaoning Province was arrested. Media revealed that despite only having a middle school education, he transformed from a killer into a self-media personality and “civilian think tank expert” in the cultural and financial fields, active in the media circles of Beijing for many years. This event has drawn public attention.
According to state media disclosed on June 11, 31 years ago on August 18, in a village in Ganjingzi District, Dalian, Liaoning Province, an intentional injury resulting in death case occurred.
Li and his mother, Gao, along with 3 others, had a dispute with their neighbors Du and Wang. During the argument, Li saw his mother and the others getting involved in a scuffle, and he took a knife and stabbed Du and Wang, causing one injury and one fatality before fleeing.
Over the 31 years, the local police officers changed, and the case files remained, but Li was never caught.
In 2025, after the capture of 11 fugitives and suspects in pending cases, the police reopened Li’s case. They discovered a person called “Wang,” who had long been active in Beijing as a self-media influencer and internet celebrity guru, skilled in hot topic analysis and financial advice, bearing a striking resemblance to Li. Through on-site investigation, they found that while Wang’s household registration was genuine, his identity was fake, confirming him as the criminal suspect Li.
It is said that after the crime, Li went into hiding in a remote area in Inner Mongolia, and later fled to a place in Jilin. In 2012, when his first-generation ID was invalidated, he contacted a black intermediary, creating a fake identity under the name of Wang Zhuzhu.
Later, Li settled in Hebei, changed his name to Wang, came to Beijing for development, and changed his name again through resettlement.
Despite having only a middle school diploma, Li utilized his eloquence and musical talents to navigate his way into various social circles in Beijing, presenting himself in different ways.
It was revealed that Li obtained numerous fake documents, such as university degrees, Ph.D. certificates, as well as professional certifications like host, media personnel to embellish his image. He also opened a self-media account, packaging himself as a so-called civilian think tank expert.
After confirming that Wang is indeed the killer Li, on February 17 this year, Li was arrested on the spot during a cultural event organized at an art museum in Beijing, with his desk displaying a plane ticket for a flight abroad in two days.
Currently, Li has been prosecuted for the crime of intentional injury resulting in death.
Regarding this, Mainland netizens have been discussing fervently:
