Recently, in Xianmi Township, Dalong Village, Menyuan County, Haibei Prefecture, Qinghai Province, a mudslide occurred, resulting in the deaths of 3 people and 2 others missing, all of whom were camping tourists, including a child over 10 years old.
According to reports from mainland Chinese media, on the evening of July 15th, Xianmi Township in Menyuan County, Haibei Prefecture, experienced sudden heavy rainfall, leading to a mudslide in Dalong Village. As of 6 p.m. on the 16th, it was confirmed that the disaster had claimed the lives of 3 tourists. During subsequent search and rescue efforts, 2 individuals were found missing.
On July 17th, according to a report from Jiemu News, officials from Xianmi Township stated that the local weather had been abnormal recently, with clear skies during the day followed by heavy rain and snow in the evening. On the evening of the 15th, there was a sudden heavy rainfall in Xianmi Township, leading to the mudslide. “The mudslide occurred just 10 minutes after the heavy rain started, it happened very quickly.” The group of 5 tourists mentioned earlier consisted of two families, including a child over 10 years old. They were camping in Dalong Gully before the mudslide occurred.
Reports indicate that local roads have been damaged due to heavy rainfall and mudslide disasters, and relief efforts as well as assessing property losses are currently underway.
Public information shows that Dalong Gully is located at the northern foot of the Qilian Mountains, near Xianmi National Forest Park, which is over a hundred kilometers away from Xining.
