The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation jointly held the “Mother’s Day Mainland Spouse Care Event,” extending warm wishes to all Mainland spouses and their families for a happy Mother’s Day.
On the 2nd of May, the Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China, along with the Ministry of the Interior and the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation, organized the “114 (2025) Mother’s Day Mainland Spouse Care Event,” inviting dozens of Mainland Chinese spouses and their families to participate. This year, in celebration of Mother’s Day, the government encouraged mutual understanding through activities like making pressed flowers and hosting meals, fostering direct face-to-face exchanges with Mainland spouses to discuss governance and various suggestions. The related activities were successfully concluded.
For Mainland spouses facing difficulties or uncertainties in submitting proof of relinquishing mainland Chinese citizenship, the Mainland Affairs Council, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Taiwan Straits Exchange Foundation set up consultation service areas on-site to provide immediate consultation services and handle application cases.
Chairperson Qiu of the Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China pointed out in his speech that it was heartening to see so many Mainland spouses leading fulfilling lives and generously sharing their experiences, allowing society at large to see the “light and warmth” of the new residents.
The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan emphasized that the vast majority of Mainland spouses love Taiwan and have integrated into society, with only a minority involved in activities harmful to Taiwan, which most Mainland spouses and their families do not support. The Council once again called on Taiwanese society to embrace all new immigrants, including Mainland spouses, with love and warmth.
The Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council noted that Lingling, a Youtuber from Shaanxi, has been in Taiwan for many years, often sharing her and her family’s love for Taiwanese daily life on Youtube, amassing a sizable following. Lingling expressed how wonderful life in Taiwan is and thanked the Mainland Affairs Council for organizing such an event during this heartwarming moment for everyone to enjoy.
Youtuber Piaopiao, hailing from Shanghai, similarly shares snippets of her life in Taiwan and her mother’s visits to Taiwan on Youtube, adding diverse narratives from new immigrants to Taiwanese society. Like Taiwanese mothers, Piaopiao is particularly concerned about children’s education, and through mutual parent-child focus and participation, we believe Taiwan’s education system can be more creative, democratic, diverse, and inclusive.
Sisters from Yunnan, attracted by curiosity about Taiwan, bravely decided to become “Mainland students” to study in Taiwan. Not only did they obtain degrees in Taiwan, but one of them also found her Mr. Right during her studies in Taiwan, transitioning from a Mainland student to a Mainland spouse, holding hands with her beloved for life. Taiwan became the blessed island witnessing their love story.
The Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council clarified recent rumors about difficulties in providing proof of relinquishing original citizenship, emphasizing that most Mainland spouses are willing to comply with legal requirements. For those facing actual difficulties, the government has been accepting applications since April 21st and promises to assist each case to the best of its ability. The government will not arbitrarily cancel a person’s Taiwanese status, guaranteeing the public’s peace of mind.
The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan stressed that regardless of when one arrived, as long as they are willing to put down roots in Taiwan, Taiwan is their home. The government has always cared for Mainland spouse families in Taiwan and will continue to enhance related governance measures in the future. The Mainland Affairs Council remains the most solid support for every Mainland spouse.
