More than 20 people in Zhengzhou bathing center faint and sent to hospital suspected of carbon monoxide poisoning.

On December 8th, several netizens posted videos claiming that a carbon monoxide poisoning incident occurred at the newly opened Shunshuilanting bath center in Zhengdong New District, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. Over 20 people fainted and were rushed to the hospital, with one person being admitted to the ICU.

The circulated video shows two female customers in bathrobes sitting in chairs resting, while three medical personnel are treating one of them. More people can be seen helping each other as they walk past the camera. The camera then pans to show a pile of vomit at the feet of a woman sitting in a chair.

On December 9th, a witness named Ms. Zhang told Dawa News that she and her friends went to the bath center that afternoon. Shortly after, they started feeling dizzy, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Ms. Zhang said, “I fainted after being there for more than 10 minutes.” Upon regaining consciousness, she saw her friend also collapsed on the ground with even more severe symptoms including hitting the back of her head and convulsions. Ms. Zhang tried to revive her friend and they were promptly taken to the hospital.

According to Ms. Zhang, about twenty to thirty people were hospitalized that day, mostly from the female bath area. She is still under medical observation in the hospital and doctors have diagnosed her with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Another person involved, Ms. Li, told Dianshi News that multiple people were collapsing one after another during the incident. All three staff members in the female bath area fainted, with at least more than 20 people fainting.

Ms. Li mentioned that her daughter first showed symptoms of vomiting and then slipped into a coma. She herself also experienced multiple vomiting episodes and excruciating headaches. Upon seeking medical treatment, doctors confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning in all patients, with their levels spiking significantly beyond normal range.

Additionally, Mr. Zhang told Jixiang News that his mother-in-law was initially admitted to the ICU but thankfully, was transferred to a regular ward on the 9th. Another eyewitness at the scene informed Read News that a child also collapsed, hitting the ground and bleeding heavily.

Regarding the incident, the Zhengdong New District Management Committee reported on the 9th that multiple people experienced “fainting” at the Shunshuilanting bath center. A special investigative team has been established to look into the matter, and the bath center involved has been temporarily closed for rectification. However, specific numbers of affected individuals and the cause of the “fainting” were not disclosed. It was only mentioned that the “uncomfortable individuals” had been sent to the hospital for treatment and were in stable condition.
