Mississippi Passes Resolution Supporting Taiwan’s Participation in International Organizations.

The Mississippi state Senate and House of Representatives have passed the joint resolution SCR541 in support of Taiwan-friendly relations and promoting economic cooperation. The resolution reaffirms strong bilateral ties and emphasizes the continuation of trade relations, the establishment of a trade and investment office in Taiwan, as well as support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations and agreements such as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Consul General in Houston, Xiao Yifang, was invited to the Mississippi State Capitol on April 16 to receive the resolution from both chambers of the state legislature.

In her address to the Senate, Xiao Yifang expressed gratitude for Mississippi’s concrete support for Taiwan, reaffirming the strong friendship between Taiwan and Mississippi. She also pledged to continue promoting cooperation in various fields between Taiwan and Mississippi, expressing hopes for further deepening bilateral relations. Her speech was met with standing ovations and applause from senators, representatives, and members of the public in attendance.

The joint resolution was proposed by 10 bipartisan senators, including Lydia Chassaniol, and was passed by both chambers of the state legislature.
