Mike McClaire serves as the new House Republican Conference Chairman

On Wednesday night, November 13th, Republican members of the House of Representatives elected Michigan State Representative Lisa McClain as the new Chair of the House Republican Conference.

The Chair of the Conference is the fourth-ranking leadership position for Republicans in the House of Representatives, responsible for overseeing and executing the information dissemination strategy within the House Republican party.

Incumbent Chair Elise Stefanik had initially planned to seek re-election but accepted the nomination by President Trump to serve as the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

In this election, McClain defeated Republican Kat Cammack from Florida. The election was conducted through a secret ballot with a vote result of 146 to 67.

Cammack had the support of Republican Representative Byron Donalds from Florida and groups like the Log Cabin Republicans, which advocates for LGBTQ rights.

McClain, on the other hand, received broad support from the Republican caucus, ranging from members of the House Freedom Caucus to ordinary national security hawks.

McClain entered Congress in 2021 and emerged as the winner in the 2024 election, securing nearly 70% of the vote in Michigan’s 9th district.

For the past two years, she has served as the Secretary of the House Republican Conference, responsible for organizing meetings and communication.

After her election, McClain took to social media to express her gratitude, stating, “I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues as Chair of the Republican Conference. Thank you to the voters in Michigan’s 9th district for their continued support. I am thrilled to lead our united team with President Trump and Speaker Johnson to advance the ‘America First’ agenda.”

Fox News reported, citing two sources, that House Republicans unanimously support the re-election of House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Furthermore, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer also received unanimous support for their re-election.
