Midnight Robbers Rampage New York City, 49 ATMs at Fast Food Stores Robbed

Attention to all Chinese supermarket, deli, and restaurant owners in Flushing and Brooklyn, be cautious as there have been recent incidents in New York City where three criminals have been breaking into establishments at midnight to steal small ATM machines. Nearly 50 of these break-ins have been reported. The United Bodegas of America held a press conference on the 9th offering a reward of $5,000 for any information leading to the capture of the thieves.

According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), between September 19th and December 26th, there were 49 incidents of these break-ins across 24 police precincts in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.

The suspects, who remain unidentified, use stolen vehicles and license plates to forcibly enter commercial properties, take away ATMs and other valuables, and then escape in different vehicles.

Fed up with the situation, grocery store owners in New York City are offering a $5,000 reward for the capture of the so-called “midnight bandits”.

“We are shocked, we are all very shocked, we offer $5,000 reward for any information on these crimes,” said Fernando Mateo, a spokesperson for the United Bodegas of America.

These three criminals have caused significant damage in dozens of delis, destroying ATM machines and making off with tens of thousands of dollars in just three months. “The thieves have inflicted a double blow on hardworking shop owners, both economically and mentally,” Mateo stated.

On December 2nd, a video captured two individuals entering the American Desi Bazaar and Deli in East Elmhurst, disconnecting the wires from the ATM machine and dragging it away. In the footage provided by the police, the three perpetrators brazenly carry out the crime.

“These attacks are unlike any we have seen before. Small business owners are the backbone of our city but have become targets of such attacks, which is unacceptable. They deserve better protection, and it is time for city officials to take action,” Mateo added.

The suspects have not been apprehended yet, according to the authorities.

Members of the outraged bodega association are urging Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul, and the NYPD to “prioritize the safety of grocery stores and small businesses”. They also call for increased police presence, enhanced security measures (including emergency buttons), and support for grocery store workers to defend themselves and prevent future attacks.

The association’s chairman, Radhames Rodriguez, questions why the theft ring has not been caught yet. “We are tired of being victims time and time again.”
