Thirteen years ago, a message in a bottle was cast into the sea from Canada by a couple. Now, it has crossed the Atlantic Ocean and washed ashore on a beach in Ireland, where it was discovered by a woman. With the help of social media, she quickly managed to track down the couple, who are now married.
According to reports from the Associated Press on July 8th, a woman named Kate Gay found a bottle containing a message while walking on the beach at the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland.
That evening, Kate shared the bottle with members of a community project during a meeting. They opened the bottle and read the message written on a piece of paper.
The note was written by a couple named Brad and Anita on September 12, 2012. It detailed their day trip to Bell Island in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The note included a phone number, but when project members tried to call, there was no answer.
The local community organization, Maharees Heritage and Conservation, posted a photo of the bottle on Facebook on July 7. Within an hour, they were able to get in touch with Anita.
Martha Farrell, a member of the organization, revealed that Anita shared that she and Brad got married in 2016 and are still together.
Kate Gay told Canadian radio station VOCM that it was “amazing” to discover the message in the bottle after 13 years. They raised a toast to Anita and Brad during the meeting, celebrating the unexpected reunion.
