Member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Bi Jingquan, is dismissed from office.

Former senior Chinese Communist Party official Bi Jingquan, who has been implicated in corruption, has been removed from office.

According to Xinhua News Agency, on June 25th, the 12th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) concluded in Beijing. The meeting passed a decision to remove Bi Jingquan from his positions as a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC and Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee, revoking his membership.

Bi Jingquan was born in September 1955 and had previously worked in the National Development and Reform Commission of the Chinese Communist Party. He held positions such as Director of the Economic and Trade Department, Secretary-General, and Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission. In March 2008, he was promoted to Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council, where he assisted Vice Premiers Wang Qishan and Wang Yang.

In February 2015, Bi Jingquan was transferred to serve as Director and Party Secretary of the State Drug Administration, earning the rank of a senior official. In March 2018, he was appointed Party Secretary and Deputy Director of the National Market Supervision Administration. However, in August of the same year, he resigned from his position due to the Jilin Changchun vaccine case, becoming the first Central Committee member to be dealt with since the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party.

Two years later, in August 2020, Bi Jingquan became the Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC. After the leadership change in March 2023, he was elected as a member of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC and Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee. In 2024, he also assumed the role of Chairman of the CCP International Economic Exchange Center. His investigation was officially announced on May 29th this year.

Bi Jingquan is the 25th senior official to fall from grace this year and the fifth senior official to have been investigated. Throughout his career, he has held various influential positions within the Chinese Communist Party, but his involvement in corruption has led to his downfall.
