McDonald’s, the fast-food chain, announced on Thursday (June 20) that starting from June 25, customers can purchase a $5 value meal for a limited time at participating restaurants. McDonald’s hopes that this initiative will boost sluggish sales and attract back customers who have cut down on spending.
Joe Erlinger, CEO of McDonald’s USA, stated in a press release: “We have clearly heard the voices of our fans – they are looking for more value from us and this summer, that is exactly what they will get.”
“Value has always been a part of our DNA. We are committed to upholding this tradition, providing customers with delicious, affordable choices whether they walk through our doors, use our drive-thru, or order through our app,” said Erlinger.
The $5 value meal includes four items: a Double Cheeseburger or McChicken, 4-piece McNuggets, small fries, and a small soft drink.
Customers ordering through the McDonald’s app can also enjoy the “Free Fries on Fridays” offer, where purchasing any food item worth at least $1 entitles them to a free medium fries. This offer is available nationwide until the end of this year.
McDonald’s franchise stores across the country are also offering local promotions. For example, in Memphis, Tennessee, there is a buy-one-get-one-dollar breakfast sandwich deal. In western New York, customers can enjoy a McChicken and McDonald’s Double Combo for $3.99.
Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported on McDonald’s latest value meal, prompting fast-food competitors to quickly introduce similar offers to attract cost-conscious diners. Burger King, Wendy’s, and even Starbucks have rolled out meal deals in recent weeks.
During an earlier earnings call this year, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski emphasized the importance of customer affordability.
Kempczinski stated: “With rising prices of everyday expenses, consumers are more discerning about every dollar they spend, putting pressure on the industry. We must continue to prioritize our customers’ affordability.”
