On September 6, 2024, at the office of mayoral candidate Daniel in San Francisco, several Chinese leaders and nearly a hundred Chinese residents gathered to celebrate.
During the opening ceremony, Daniel emphasized his commitment to the city of San Francisco and the Chinatown community, expressing support for the Asian and Chinese communities. He mentioned his trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City with former San Francisco City Councilor Mabel Teng, which deepened his understanding of anti-Asian issues. He stressed that “there will be no room for anti-Asian incidents during my term as mayor”.
Daniel further emphasized the importance of public safety, promising to prioritize it every day. He pointed out that commitments to the Asian community should not only be made during election years but should also focus on their safety and well-being on a regular basis.
He believes that “the revival of Chinatown is crucial to the revival of San Francisco. If Chinatown rises again, San Francisco can once again become a world-class city.” He hopes to promote this process through concrete actions.
Regarding government representation, Daniel stated that the Asian community will not just have a seat but many seats. With 37% of San Francisco’s population being Asian, including over 20% who are Chinese, there are too few Asian faces in the current city government. He promised that under his leadership, this will change.
He pledged to establish a more representative and accountable government, implementing stronger measures in dealing with mental health and drug crises, including mandatory treatment if necessary, to fulfill commitments that the current government has failed to fulfill.
Lastly, Daniel mentioned the need to streamline bureaucratic institutions, reduce red tape, and eradicate corruption. He criticized the operational methods of the current government’s internal personnel and emphasized the need for a new, responsible leadership. He believes that San Francisco is the greatest city in the world and has the greatest Chinatown in the world. With everyone working together, San Francisco can shine again. Daniel stressed that he will unite individuals from all industries and political parties to serve all citizens, regardless of their political beliefs.
