The Hollywood blockbuster “Barbie” successfully conquered the film industry last year, with a global box office revenue of $1.445 billion, making it the top-grossing movie of 2023. On the 22nd, lead actress and producer Margot Robbie revealed that she found selling gin much easier than selling movies.
33-year-old Australian actress Margot Robbie, known for her success in the film industry with various hit movies, is now venturing into the gin market. Robbie, along with her husband Tom Ackerley and three other friends, has launched their own gin brand. She told The London Times that she found the process of producing and selling gin to be refreshing and simpler compared to selling movies.
Explaining the challenges of selling movies, Robbie, who portrayed Barbie, stated, “Movies are a crazy business, you’re not selling a tangible product, just an idea. You don’t know how much money it will make, who will watch it, if anyone will watch it, or how it will be received.”
Robbie admitted that selling physical products is more predictable and straightforward, saying, “It feels more direct, easier to grasp. You can put it on a spreadsheet, but you can’t apply that to movie creativity.” She added, “Our passion lies in movies and drinks, and now we’ve chosen both.”
Despite discussing the difficulty of selling movies, Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, co-founded in 2014, has had numerous successful film projects, including “Barbie,” “I, Tonya” (2017), and “Saltburn” (2023). “Barbie” received a total of 25 Oscar nominations and 18 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) nominations.
In recent years, not only has Robbie’s career progressed, but her marriage with British film producer Ackerley has also been strong. Speaking about their relationship, Ackerley praised his wife Robbie, stating to The Sunday Times that they spend every day together when balancing work and leisure activities.
According to foreign reports, Robbie and Ackerley had a private wedding ceremony on the Gold Coast of Australia in December 2016. While the couple occasionally attends events together, they generally keep their personal life private.
