Man in Sichuan Stabs Woman with Knife on the Street

A series of vicious incidents causing harm in China continue to surface. On May 14th, in Chengdu, Sichuan, a man stabbed a woman multiple times on the street with a knife. It is said that the altercation leading to the incident was sparked by a dispute over labor services, resulting in the man losing control of his emotions.

A video circulating online shows a man pushing a woman to the ground and then stabbing her repeatedly, while onlookers attempted to intervene but were intimidated by the knife-wielding assailant. One man in black initially tried to stop the attacker with a long pole but retreated after being threatened, allowing the assailant to continue his assault on the woman.

According to witnesses nearby, the assailant’s knife appeared to have been “bent” from the attack, causing fear among those present. One witness mentioned that the incident occurred in the vicinity of their building, which housed a labor service company. The altercation initially started as an argument, with several individuals from the company confronting the suspect, leading to the violent outburst.

Online comments suggested that the labor service company was involved in deceptive practices, being referred to as a “black intermediary” that deceived workers into jobs outside the region without paying them properly. Many netizens expressed familiarity with similar fraudulent schemes by such intermediaries in the area, with one remarking that the district of Pixian is notorious for harboring such illicit activities.

Following the incident, the Pixian District Sub-bureau of the Chengdu Public Security Bureau issued a statement reporting that a violent altercation occurred on Lianghe Road in Xipu Street around 11 o’clock that day. The suspect, Mr. Luo (23 years old), stabbed Ms. Wang (29 years old) with a knife due to a dispute. Ms. Wang is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital and is not in critical condition. Mr. Luo has been criminally detained on suspicion of intentional homicide.

In recent years, as China’s economy continues to decline and unemployment rates rise, cases of indiscriminate violence and social retaliation have been on the rise. Previous reports indicate that in 2024 alone, mainland Chinese media covered at least twenty cases of indiscriminate violent incidents.
