Meanwhile, there is widespread curiosity about the underlying illness that led to Wu Liansheng’s untimely death at the age of 62.

According to reports from “Upstream News,” Wu Liansheng’s family has not disclosed the cause of his death. His last Weibo post on September 10, 2023, promoted his starring role in “Great Prosperity Leader.” Even then, his pale complexion and visible weakness hinted at his declining health.

While social media in China is filled with reports of overcrowded hospitals and overwhelmed crematoriums, the Chinese Communist Party has not officially acknowledged the severity of the situation. The National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China only acknowledged a “continuous upward trend in acute respiratory infectious diseases” from December 23 to 29 last year. It remains unknown whether Wu Liansheng’s passing is related to this current wave of the epidemic.
