Mainland singer Mao Buyi remembers Dee Hsu, calling her his unseen sister.

On May 9th, mainland Chinese singer Mao Buyi, aged 30, took to Weibo to pay tribute to the late Taiwanese artist Big S (Dee Hsu), who passed away in Japan three months ago due to complications from pneumonia. Mao Buyi expressed his admiration for Big S, whom he referred to as his “sister” despite never having met her in person, emphasizing her enduring beauty and courage.

Mao Buyi reflected on Big S by writing, “She was never afraid to love or hate and always stood by what she believed to be right, even if correctness sometimes came with pain… Fortunately, in my younger days, I encountered such a lone wolf who taught me how to love, how to turn encounters into jokes to dispel moments of sensitivity and hesitation into firm resolve through laughter. Thank you, my unseen sister. I miss you very much.”

Big S passed away suddenly in Japan in February due to pneumonia complications, leaving her family in a lingering sorrow. Recently, news emerged that Big S’s mother fell ill due to missing her beloved daughter. In response, Little S (Ella Hsu) penned a heartfelt post on Facebook on May 9th, reminiscing about her time with her sister and declaring her determination to “truly pull herself together.” With Mother’s Day approaching, she initiated a commemorative event for Big S, hoping to impart warmth and strength to her mother.

Taiwanese host Kang Kangyong shared a photo with Big S on Facebook, highlighting the profound impact she had on him — regularly responding to his questions with affirmations, providing a reassuring sense of encouragement. As Mother’s Day nears, he expressed gratitude to their mother and wished her a happy Mother’s Day, acknowledging that their world could only have such wonderful individuals due to her giving birth to Big S and Little S.

Wu Qingfeng shared Kang Kangyong’s post on Weibo, expressing the struggle of trying to find the right words in the face of such emotions. He revealed that the memory of Big S lingers daily due to her “strong power,” bringing him warmth in moments of longing and memories of her encompassing embrace that melts away doubts with tender love.

Wu Qingfeng also disclosed acts of kindness by Big S, such as caring for him at gatherings and specially going backstage to cheer him on during concerts, acting like a family member. He expressed his longing to hear Big S’s lively yet gently scolding voice again and urged Big S’s mother to take care of herself. He tagged Little S, saying, “Love you, missing you!”

Mao Buyi, who started his singing career in 2016 after interning as a nurse in a hospital, rose to fame after winning the championship in the finale of the talent show “Birth of a Star” in 2017. He gained popularity with hit songs like “An Ordinary Day,” “Borrow,” “Unstained,” “Worry-Free,” “Someone Like Me,” and recorded theme songs for numerous films and television dramas.

On May 9th, Mao Buyi tenderly penned his memories of Big S on Weibo, acknowledging that his acquaintance with her was from the show “Kangxi Coming” hosted by her and Kang Kangyong. At that time, she had already made a lasting impression with her elegant and graceful image, but upon revisiting earlier shows, he realized her underlying bravery and willingness to love and hate.

The hashtag #MaoBuyiMissesBigS quickly became a top trending topic on Weibo as netizens flooded the platform with messages expressing sentiments like, “So even gentle souls can be touched by equally passionate spirits,” and “If Big S could speak from the heavens, she would surely smile and say, ‘Mao Mao, continue to sing well.'”
