Mainland Chinese actress Nanaer Naxi has recently been embroiled in controversies such as “cheating in the college entrance exam” and “breach of targeted training obligations,” sparking doubts about educational fairness in society. This incident quickly became a focus of public attention. The official investigation results released recently confirmed that Nanaer Naxi falsified her college entrance exam registration materials, causing a huge uproar online.
Just before this year’s college entrance exam, CCTV of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) released a video of celebrities wishing students good luck, including Nanaer Naxi. At that time, Nanaer Naxi was riding high on the popularity of her works like “Feng Shen Part 2.” Subsequently, netizens dug deeper into her background and found several suspicious points.
On June 8th, the “cheating in college entrance exam” incident involving Nanaer Naxi garnered widespread attention online. Some netizens noticed that the video of Nanaer Naxi wishing good luck to exam-taking students, previously released by official media, had been deleted.
It was revealed by an online user that Nanaer Naxi grew up in Beijing and attended the prestigious Beijing No. 11 School, but took the college entrance exam as a Inner Mongolia student.
Furthermore, last year when she participated in a variety show, she openly mentioned being a “targeted trained student” and stated that she did not return to work in Inner Mongolia after graduation but went to study in Norway instead, even describing it as “cool.” This statement, dug out by netizens just before the exam, became the spark that ignited public opinion.
Netizens further discovered that Nanaer Naxi’s mother was also a first batch Inner Mongolia targeted trained student at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and is currently a teacher at the school. With details like “both mother and daughter are targeted trained students” and “privileged background (father suspected to be a CCTV producer),” netizens questioned the existence of a “privilege inheritance” phenomenon, criticizing her for occupying resources that should have belonged to students from remote areas of Inner Mongolia.
As the public opinion escalated, several CCP official media quickly deleted the videos of Nanaer Naxi cheering for students that were previously released, even stealthily removing her from the list of well-wishers. “CCTV news deleted Nanaer Naxi’s name” quickly became a trending topic on Weibo, seen as an official indication, further fueling the public’s quest for the truth of the matter.
Due to immense public pressure, relevant departments in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region formed a joint working group to conduct an investigation. On the evening of June 21st, CCP official media released a bulletin confirming multiple violations by Nanaer Naxi:
According to the report, when Nanaer Naxi registered for the college entrance exam in 2008, she claimed to be a recent graduate from Hohhot No. 8 Middle School, but investigation revealed she had no educational experience or academic record at that school. This proves her college entrance exam registration materials were falsified.
The report stated that Nanaer Naxi was indeed admitted to the Shanghai Theatre Academy through the “targeted training” program, but she failed to fulfill the related obligations after graduation, constituting a breach of contract.
Nanaer Naxi’s actions were criticized for exploiting loopholes in regulations for profit, sparking widespread controversy.
During the escalation of the incident, the treatment of Nanaer Naxi in different works also caught the attention of the industry. In the TV series “Litchi in Chang’an,” where she played a minor supporting role despite being a new character with limited screen time, she ranked higher than the main actors. The production team continued to arrange for her to appear in promotions even after she became embroiled in controversy.
However, in the new film “Shadow Fighter” starring Wu Jing and Nicholas Tse, Nanaer Naxi’s name as the female lead had quietly disappeared from the show’s information. According to information from the production team, the handling of Nanaer Naxi’s role would be based on the results of the ongoing investigation.
Additionally, Nanaer Naxi had previously claimed to be a teaching assistant at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, but the academy later clarified that they had never employed her in that role. Nevertheless, some netizens still found images of her appearing as a professional teacher on the school’s official website.
