Mainland China’s Famous Host Tu Lei Responds to Controversies Surrounding His Chaotic Personal Life

On May 17th, a netizen released a video revealing that the host Tu had a chaotic private life, sparking discussions online. In the afternoon of that day, renowned host Tu Lei responded with a video accompanied by the caption: “Refuse to spread rumors, everyone is responsible!” He mentioned in the video that he had reported the case and displayed the acknowledgment of the report. Tu Lei denounced the netizen for fabricating rumors in a vivid and detailed manner, vowing to take legal action against the allegations.

Tu Lei also mentioned in the video that he and his wife have known each other for 20 years and have always had a good relationship. He shared the challenges his wife faced with illness and treatments, expressing his guilt for causing distress to his family due to the spreading rumors, and asserting his determination to get to the bottom of the matter.

This is not the first time Tu Lei has been involved in controversy. Last year on July 26th, a woman accused him of sexual assault, causing her significant psychological trauma. The following day, Tu Lei posted a video on Weibo stating, “Today, I must speak up for myself! I owe an explanation to the more than 50 million fans who have supported me for over 20 years.”

According to “Nine Realms News”, Tu Lei believed that the woman might have been influenced by others to make the accusations. He responded by saying, “Regardless of your motives, and it’s clear to me that you seem hesitant while saying these things, as if someone is manipulating you from behind. No matter the purpose or who is behind it, I will expose you and those who are guiding you.” He claimed to have filed a report at the police station.

Two days later, on July 29th, Hangzhou police in Zhejiang province reported on the “allegation of sexual assault by host Tu Lei against a woman”. The report stated that the informant Tan had never met Tu in person and was diagnosed with delusional disorder, without evidence of being manipulated by someone else.

Tu Lei, 46 years old, is a well-known male host in mainland China, having hosted several shows such as “The Great Judgment of Emotions,” “The One and Only,” “Love Defense War,” “Happiness Knocks on the Door,” known for his sharp and composed demeanor. Specializing in emotional analysis, he is straightforward in his critique, earning him the title of “poisonous-tongued host”.

His bold and piercing commentary has garnered praise on social media platforms, but he has also faced criticism for his lecture-like communication style, often referred to as the “perpetually stern uncle” by viewers.
