Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan: CCP intends to harm the Republic of China with non-peaceful means.

On March 15, 2025, during a symposium commemorating the 20th anniversary of China’s “Anti-Secession Law,” discussions about “firmly combating Taiwan independence separatism” were raised. Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council stated that the Chinese Communist Party’s intention to use hostile laws to harm the sovereignty of the Republic of China and the resolute will of the Taiwanese people to resist annexation and infiltration remains steadfast.

The symposium for the 20th anniversary of the “Anti-Secession Law” took place on the 14th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, emphasized the resolute pursuit of anti-separation and anti-interference struggles, upholding the “One China Principle,” and promoting “anti-independence and reunification.”

The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China criticized the “Anti-Secession Law” enacted by the Chinese Communist Party 20 years ago, which aims to serve as the legal basis for annexing Taiwan. The forced promotion of unification, including the possibility of the use of force, not only violates international law but also goes against the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, which are neither accepted by the international community nor Taiwan.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party’s legal warfare against Taiwan has a long history, with numerous instances in recent years of enacting various punitive measures aimed at Taiwan independence. These actions violate fundamental legal principles of the civilized world and infringe upon human rights, intending to further “domesticate” Taiwan and exert control with extended jurisdiction, intensifying intimidation against Taiwan.

“The so-called laws and norms of the Chinese Communist Party have no binding force on our people, nor will they alter the fact that the Republic of China is a sovereign state. They will only seriously disrupt normal interactions between both sides, provoke confrontation between the people on both sides, and escalate mutual hostility,” stated the Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan.

The Council emphasized that defending democracy, safeguarding sovereignty, maintaining the way of life based on freedom and democracy, and staunchly opposing Taiwan’s annexation by the Chinese Communist Party represent the greatest consensus in Taiwanese society.

In the face of threats to the national sovereignty of the Republic of China by the Chinese Communist Party, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council highlighted that President Lai Ching-te disclosed on the 13th the five major national security threats facing Taiwan and the corresponding 17 response strategies. The government will uphold the principles of “four insistences” and “four unchanges,” enhancing the overall societal defense resilience, vigorously promoting the “Four Pillars of Peace Action Plan,” demonstrating the nationwide unity and determination to oppose the Chinese Communist Party’s annexation of Taiwan. Through cooperation with allied countries, Taiwan aims to convey to the world its national will opposing the CCP’s takeover of Taiwan and resolutely protect Taiwan’s democracy and prosperity.
