Renowned international actress Maggie Cheung, who is 60 years old, shared a video on a social media platform on September 12, showcasing her leisurely life in a rural area in Bordeaux, France. The video sparked discussions among netizens, propelling related discussions to the top of the trending list for the day. Netizens expressed that she has “lived the way she wanted.”

After retiring from the entertainment industry, Maggie Cheung now leads a relaxed life in a European countryside. Following her previous video of climbing trees in the fields, she recently released another video featuring her in a simple farmer’s attire. She personally appeared in the chicken coop to collect eggs, attracting attention and discussions from netizens.

In the video, Maggie Cheung wore a large sun hat, sunglasses, and a scarf wrapped around her neck. Fully covered, she carefully retrieved five warm eggs from the coop, even putting two in her pocket, and finally said “thank you” to the mother hen. In the video description, she wrote: “In the city, eggs are only seen as daily food, but here, every time I come to collect eggs, I feel happy and grateful.”

During her first visit to Bordeaux, France, Maggie Cheung recently released a video. She effortlessly climbed a tall tree, with precise movements, and joyfully opened her arms to feel the cool breeze, exclaiming, “It’s so refreshing!” Netizens praised her agility, and a little girl beside her jokingly said, “She must have climbed trees when she was young.”

Maggie Cheung also expressed her feelings in a post, stating that her days in Bordeaux are “simple and pure,” allowing her to completely relax. She reminisced: “I loved climbing trees, holding bunnies, and running on big grass fields as a child… I never expected that this journey to Bordeaux would bring me back to childhood.”

Born in Hong Kong, Maggie Cheung moved to England with her family at the age of 8. Spending her childhood in England, she returned to Hong Kong at 17 to visit her family, where she was discovered by talent scouts and applied to the film company “Shaw Brothers.” The following year, she was encouraged to compete in the Miss Hong Kong pageant, where she won first runner-up and Miss Photogenic, marking her entry into the entertainment industry. Some of her notable films include “Farewell My Concubine,” “Comrades: Almost a Love Story,” and “In the Mood for Love.”

Hong Kong director Wong Jing recently mentioned in a short film the turning point where Maggie Cheung transformed from a “flower vase” to a talented actress.

Wong Jing stated, “Maggie Cheung’s first film with me was definitely as a ‘flower vase,’ not knowing anything but just being cute; she played such roles in about ten films. She felt she couldn’t continue doing that and was getting ‘old,’ so she couldn’t play ‘flower vase’ roles anymore.” Later, Sylvia Chang invited Maggie Cheung to Taiwan to film a movie. At that time, Sylvia Chang said to Maggie Cheung, “I will train you for a year and show you a film called ‘A Tale of the Yellow Tiger’.”

Wong Jing mentioned that Maggie Cheung indeed underwent a year of special training but returned to Hong Kong when the movies she collaborated on with Sylvia Chang did not perform well at the box office. Wong Jing recalled, “After returning to Hong Kong, she took a job casually, starring in a movie called ‘As Tears Go By,’ which was the first film by Wong Kar-wai.”

Having appeared in over 80 films, Maggie Cheung has won 5 Hong Kong Film Awards and 4 Taiwan Golden Horse Awards for Best Actress, making her the record holder for these two honors. She is also the only Chinese actress to have won Best Actress awards at the Berlin Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and the Asia Pacific Film Festival. Since fading from the screens in 2012, Maggie Cheung has been leading a quiet life. Over the years, she has been constantly asked by the media if she will make a comeback, to which she responds, “I will not consider it unless I come across a script that interests me.”
