Los Angeles police arrest dozens after curfew takes effect.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested dozens of people on Tuesday (June 10) after curfew was enforced. Local officials had earlier announced that there would be restrictions in the downtown area from 8 pm to 6 am.

Los Angeles Mayor, Democrat Karen Bass, declared a curfew in the downtown area on Tuesday to respond to large-scale protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enforcement.

Mayor Bass stated in a press release on Tuesday that the curfew was put in place to “deter bad actors who do not support immigrant communities.”

The curfew order stated, “If you do not live in or work in downtown Los Angeles, please stay away from the area. Law enforcement will arrest violators of the curfew and charges will be brought against you.”

Prior to the curfew taking effect on Tuesday, law enforcement had already detained nearly 200 protesters. The protesters had stormed a federal building, set fire to vehicles, and demonstrated against ICE’s enforcement actions targeting illegal immigrants.

The Trump administration was forced to deploy National Guard and Marine Corps soldiers to ensure the safety of the area.

The Los Angeles police stated that the damage caused by the protesters could amount to “millions of dollars.”

Mayor Bass implemented the curfew, but she and California Governor, Democrat Gavin Newsom, urged the Trump administration to withdraw federal forces, believing that their presence would only escalate chaos and conflicts.

President Trump responded earlier on Wednesday on “Truth Social” accusing Newsom of being “incompetent, failing to provide timely protection for our immigration enforcement officers, resulting in these great patriots being attacked by out-of-control agitators, troublemakers, and/or insurgents.”
