Los Angeles Chinese Community Gathers to Mourn Victims of Hong Kong Hongfu Garden Fire

A devastating fire at the Hong Kong Horace Garden at the end of last month resulted in hundreds of casualties, shocking the world and touching the hearts of overseas Chinese. People expressed their condolences and concern in various ways. On November 30th (Sunday), members of the International Alliance of the China Democracy Party, anti-communist justice activists, gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles to mourn the victims of the fire and condemn the Chinese Communist authorities for their responsibility for this tragic incident.

Accompanied by the song “Glory to Hong Kong,” attendees laid flowers for the victims. The large-screen TV at the scene broadcasted images of the victims and the intense scene of the building engulfed in flames. Many people were moved to tears by the heartbreaking sight.

Chairman Kui Lijian of the International Alliance of the China Democracy Party stated that the intensity of the fire in Hong Kong was not surprising, likening it to a “2.0 version” of a major disaster in mainland China. He pointed out that urban disasters are prevalent under the complete control of the Chinese Communist Party. The destruction of the rule of law and freedom in Hong Kong under the Communist regime has inevitably led to corruption and authoritarianism. The renovation of the Horace Garden building was a government project, and the initiator of the fire was the corrupt system of the Chinese Communist Party.

Kui Lijian believes that in a democratic country, officials would have resigned long ago in the face of so many Hong Kong casualties in the fire. The appearance of Lee Ka-chao, appointed by the Chinese Communist Party, at the scene to inspect the situation was seen as “pretending to be a good person.”

Following the fire, a young person from Hong Kong initiated a petition for accountability but was immediately arrested by the Hong Kong police under the National Security Law. Kui Lijian believes that this demonstrates the Chinese Communist Party’s fear of people having legal awareness of safeguarding their rights and that the National Security Law in Hong Kong is a pocketed crime given to the people, making everyone feel insecure. “The current state of Hong Kong is very distressing. This event is not just a mourning for the victims of the fire but also a lament for the lost rule of law and freedom in Hong Kong,” he said.

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Takanohaya Sanae’s remarks in the Diet on November 7th in support of Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party continuously pressured and threatened. In addition, Kui Lijian added, “The Chinese Communist Party continues to adopt hegemonic aggression in the Asia-Pacific region and the waters of multiple countries in the South China Sea, eroding territorial sovereignty and provoking the sovereignty of various countries, employing its despicable and arrogant diplomatic methods for many years. Through economic, diplomatic, live-fire exercises, and various other means, threatening the Japanese government, even directly cutting power during performances by Japanese singers in China, revealing the evil nature of the Communist Party rogues to the world.”

Protesters at the rally expressed opposition to the Chinese Communist Party’s threats to Taiwan and Japan. The event’s organizer, Bai Guowu, stated that the CCP’s military threats to Taiwan and the destruction of Hong Kong’s civilization and freedom clearly demonstrate the evil nature of its authoritarian regime.

“It rules through fear, sustains itself through lies, consolidates through violence, and replaces construction with destruction,” he said. “The situation in Hong Kong today is the future that Taiwan is unwilling and unable to accept, while Taiwan’s presence represents the forefront of the democratic front in Asia.”

Chu Chengsong, a senior member of the China Democracy Party Committee, said in his speech, “I will always support Taiwan. I wrote on Twitter that if the Chinese Communist Party dares to invade Taiwan, I will definitely go to Taiwan to defend freedom and democracy.”

He said that Taiwan is the beacon of freedom for the Chinese people, and they will never be afraid under the threat of the Chinese Communist Party. They will definitely fight alongside Taiwan against the CCP’s atrocities. “We have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party for so many years, and we absolutely cannot let the Taiwanese people suffer the persecution of the CCP again!”

During the rally, the flag of the Republic of China was raised, and the national anthem of the Republic of China was played. At the end of the event, participants held up posters and banners, as well as flags of various countries including Japan, South Korea, the Republic of China, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. They marched multiple times in front of the consulate. The event was live-streamed on YouTube that day and received nearly 100,000 views.
