US President Trump welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to the White House on Friday, February 7th, and they held a joint press conference. The Epoch Times and New Tang Dynasty TV broadcasted the event live with real-time Chinese subtitles.
The agenda for the meeting between the two leaders is expected to cover trade issues, as well as economic and security threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party and North Korea.
Ishiba arrived in Washington on Thursday, February 6th. Japanese government officials stated that Ishiba would hold talks with Trump on Friday regarding economic and security matters, aiming to further cooperation in realizing the vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP).
Before departing, Ishiba told reporters in his office, “This will be our first face-to-face meeting, and I hope to build trust with him.”
Ishiba also expressed his hope to confirm with Trump that Japan-US cooperation will contribute to “peace and development” in the Indo-Pacific region and the world.
