On October 13th, there was a service disruption on the Chinese social platform Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book), triggering a large-scale discussion online and causing the topic #XiaohongshuDown# to trend.
During the afternoon of the 13th, Xiaohongshu experienced technical malfunctions. Users commonly reported issues such as images and comments not displaying, with notifications stating “network abnormality” or “road ahead congested.” Some users also encountered problems with functions like blocking other users.
Some users initially thought it was due to poor signal, only to realize that the server had crashed. Others reported suddenly being unable to refresh their feeds while browsing.
In addition, users mentioned various issues: “The web version disconnected and couldn’t scan the login QR code.” “Even though I didn’t exit the group chat, it kicked me out.” “I can’t access my browsing history.” “Can’t enter the creator’s center, refresh shows ‘queueing, please try again later’.”
According to reports by “Global Network Technology,” after the incident, they reached out to Xiaohongshu for verification, but the official response was not immediately available.
The “Nanchang Evening News” reported that Xiaohongshu’s customer service responded by stating that they had forwarded the feedback on the app’s anomalies to the relevant staff for prompt resolution.
Subsequently, the customer service of Xiaohongshu confirmed that the app had been restored to normal functioning.
Xiaohongshu, since its introduction over a decade ago, has around 130 million daily active users and approximately 339 million monthly active users.
