Lin Chi-ling has been devoted to accompanying her son since his birth, staying away from the big screen for 5 years. However, she remains connected to the world of cinema. Last year, she made a comeback at the Golden Horse Awards, while her husband, AKIRA, attended the Taipei Film Awards. Yesterday, she was invited to attend a film festival event in Beijing, where she took a 4-day leave from her son and mother-in-law, admitting it was the longest time she had been away from her son.
Appearing at the film festival event in Beijing on the 18th, Lin Chi-ling served as the opening performance guest. She arrived early to prepare for the rehearsals.
Her son seemed to have a telepathic connection with her, displaying signs of reluctance in advance. Lin Chi-ling recalled sending her son to kindergarten in the past few days, and each time she dropped him off, he would cling to her with reluctance, saying “mommy, mommy”, making it hard for her to let go. She described her son’s current reluctance to part with her as “very cute”.
Admitting that this was the longest she had been away from her son, she stated, “4 days is the limit”, but because it was for an interesting film-related job, she first informed her family and son. She mentioned how her husband, AKIRA, was also busy with his tour, so she had to request permission from her mother-in-law first before taking on external work.
Even in Beijing, Lin Chi-ling and her son communicate daily via Facetime. She shared that during their video calls, her son would cheer her on with phrases like “mommy, you can do it” and “mommy, Love You”. She also mentioned how he asks her where she is, to which she responds, “In Beijing”, and how he is now capable of having conversations and admiring her singing.
Describing her son as outgoing, energetic, independent, and fond of interacting with adults, Lin Chi-ling noted that he still clings to her the most.
Regarding the division of childcare responsibilities between her and her husband AKIRA, Lin Chi-ling said, “They say parenting is a relay race for couples, neither of us is particularly stronger in any aspect, we are good teammates. My husband is talented, he recently made some toys out of cardboard boxes, toy cars, and even a small parking lot, which I find very cute and more precious than store-bought stuff!”
Since her pregnancy and the birth of her son, Lin Chi-ling has put on hold any long-term commitments and paused filming. She explained, “Children grow up very fast, so I cherish the process of watching him grow. Seeing him, and considering his personality development, it’s all about our teachings and examples, subtly influencing his heart, so it’s important to spend more time together at this stage.”
Despite having numerous work invitations, Lin Chi-ling stated, “Occasionally taking a small break to work or having him by my side, showing him a different world, it’s also good.” She carefully selects her projects now, considering meaningful and interesting opportunities, including film festival events and her long-standing dedication to charity work.
She revealed plans for a mental health project, especially focusing on children’s mental health, which is the main focus of the Chi-ling Sister’s Charity Foundation this year, aiming to provide assistance to families in need in society. She expressed her willingness to participate in meaningful activities that could bring warmth and happiness to others.
When asked about when she will return to filming, she mentioned not having an urge to act but having “an urge to watch movies”. However, due to taking care of her child, she hasn’t had the chance to go to the cinema to enjoy a movie properly, and will have to wait until her son grows up a little more.
