Liaoning Jianchang Flood Relief Donations Include High Heels, Sparking Concern.

Recently, a video of complaining villagers in Jianchang County, Liaoning Province about donated goods has gone viral online. In the video, a villager holding several pairs of high-heeled shoes with both hands said, “What is this? Do I need these big high-heeled shoes? Look at the clothes, they are unwearable. Can our family accept these scraps?” This has attracted attention.

On August 26, workers from the Jianchang County Charity Association responded by stating that the appearance of high-heeled shoes and old clothes among donated goods was an individual behavior, urging everyone to donate items such as instant noodles, blankets, tents, and other similar supplies.

The video of the villager’s complaint has sparked heated discussions on the Internet.

Some netizens expressed understanding towards the villagers’ feelings. In sudden disaster situations, where life is in disarray and there is a need for help, items like bright red high-heeled shoes and worn-out clothes are indeed of little use, taking up space. Such donations not only fail to address practical issues but may also add extra psychological burden and inconvenience to the affected people.

A blogger mentioned that the affected population is currently facing the dilemma of their homes being destroyed and their lives disrupted. What they need are supplies that can quickly improve their living conditions, such as food, drinking water, warm clothing, temporary shelter, rather than items that are of no practical use.

However, some netizens believe that all acts of kindness are worthy of recognition and encouragement. Any actions taken to help those in need are commendable and praiseworthy.

From August 19th to 21st, Jianchang County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province, suffered from consecutive heavy rainfall attacks, with the total precipitation and intensity breaking historical records of meteorological data. The heavy rainfall caused interruptions in the county’s electricity, communication, and significant damage to basic infrastructures like roads. Many farmhouses and crops were severely affected, and the residents faced numerous difficulties in daily life.

On August 25th, the Jianchang County Committee’s propaganda department announced that they had received social assistance.

According to the official statement from Jianchang County, the most urgently needed supplies currently are tents, beds, bedding, as well as rice, noodles, and cooking oil, essential daily necessities.
