Li Gang, Mayor of Lijiang City in Yunnan, Under Investigation

Yunnan Province’s Deputy Secretary of the Lijiang City Committee and Mayor Li Gang is under investigation.

On October 11th, the Discipline Inspection Commission of Yunnan Province announced that Li Gang, Deputy Secretary of the Lijiang City Committee and Mayor of the city, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law. He voluntarily surrendered and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Discipline Inspection Commission of Yunnan Province.

Li Gang, 55, from Chuxiong, Yunnan, previously served as the General Manager, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of Yunnan Tin Industry Group Co., Ltd. He also held the positions of President, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd., as well as the Party Secretary and Chairman of Yunnan Aviation Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd.

In February 2023, Li Gang was transferred to the position of Deputy Secretary of the Lijiang City Committee and the candidate for Mayor, and was officially appointed as the Mayor the following month. This decision was made until he voluntarily surrendered.

According to official government sources, the last public appearance of Li Gang was on August 27th of this year when he attended the opening ceremony of the 2025 Lijiang City Workers’ Games.
