On the evening of August 23rd, Taiwanese singer Yang Zongwei had an accident during a concert in Xining, Qinghai, China. While performing the song “Over the Mountains,” he accidentally stepped into the void and fell from the 2-meter high stage, producing a loud “thud” that startled the audience. The performance was interrupted, and in a painful expression, he was assisted by staff to receive urgent medical treatment.
According to reports from mainland media, the “Melodious Music Super Live Concert” was held at the Qinghai Sports Center Stadium at 8:30 pm on the 23rd. Besides Yang Zongwei, three other Taiwanese singers, Pan Weibo, Jam Hsiao, and Angela Pang, also participated. Each singer performed with their band, with each having a 40-minute set. Yang Zongwei was originally scheduled to perform 7 songs.
Video footage from the scene showed Yang Zongwei singing “Over the Mountains,” and as he reached the lyrics “let me follow you, let me follow you,” his singing abruptly stopped. His right foot stepped into the void, causing him to lose balance and fall sideways with a loud “thud” from the stage.
After being helped up by the staff, Yang Zongwei bent over, unable to stand upright or walk independently, indicating a possible injury to his waist. Witnesses revealed that Yang Zongwei might have hit the back of his head on the ground, with a loud impact heard, either from his head or the microphone. With a pained expression, he was lifted into an ambulance, and the subsequent performance was taken over by Angela Pang.
In response to the sudden accident, the organizers issued a statement saying that the on-site medical team promptly provided initial treatment and immediately transported him to the hospital for evaluation. Yang Zongwei, after receiving medical attention, apologized for causing concern, jokingly saying, “Hope my mom won’t see this trending,” and thanked everyone for their care.
As reported by mainland media Red Star News, staff members of the concert organizer “Melodious Music” later stated in an interview that Yang Zongwei’s injuries were not serious, just a sprained waist, and he is currently in the hospital. They reassured, “He’s really fine, no need to worry.”
