Leaders of Seven Nations Nominate Trump to Compete for Nobel Peace Prize, White House Endorses

The White House announced on Wednesday (August 13) that President Trump has been nominated by seven world leaders to compete for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nominating countries include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Israel, Pakistan, Rwanda, Cambodia, and Gabon, in recognition of Trump’s key mediation role in multiple international conflicts.

The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the most prestigious international honors in the world. Since Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, no Republican U.S. president has received this award.

The list released by the White House includes nominees such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Government of Pakistan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema, and Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe.

The nominees are from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The main reason for the nominations is Trump’s demonstrated mediation abilities in multiple international conflicts, successfully pushing for ceasefires.

The White House statement said, “These nominations prove that Donald Trump is a president of peace.”

In recent months, Trump has intervened in various international conflicts, including brokering a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and constructing a transportation corridor across Armenia; assisting Thailand and Cambodia in reaching a ceasefire agreement; facilitating a ceasefire during the military standoff between India and Pakistan; and defusing tensions between Israel and Iran, leading to a ceasefire and the release of hostages, advocating to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

The Pakistani government nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in June, affirming his “decisive diplomatic intervention and crucial leadership.”

During his visit to the White House in July, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu handed Trump a copy of the nomination letter he sent to the Nobel Committee, nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the nomination of Trump on August 7, citing his role in brokering a Thai-Cambodian ceasefire in July to end a five-day conflict that resulted in over 40 deaths and 300,000 displaced people. Hun Manet stated, “Trump has consistently pursued peace through diplomatic means, which aligns perfectly with the vision of Alfred Nobel, recognizing individuals who make outstanding contributions to international friendship and peace development.”

After the signing of an agreement at the White House between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, they publicly expressed support for Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan said, “I believe President Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and we will defend and promote this nomination.”

In Africa, both Gabonese President Nguema and Rwandan Minister Nduhungirehe stated that Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ending the decades-long conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nguema pointed out that Trump “is bringing peace to regions where peace was previously impossible, so I believe he truly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Nduhungirehe expressed that “anyone, including President Trump, who makes significant contributions to ending this conflict, should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.”

The nomination deadline for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is January 31 next year, and the Norwegian Nobel Committee will not publicly confirm the nominees. The winner of the 2026 prize was originally scheduled to be announced on October 10 next year, and the official nomination list from the committee will be sealed for 50 years.
