On the evening of March 20th, several mainland Chinese netizens posted a video on Weibo claiming that a fire broke out on the set of the new drama “Moon Scale Fantasy”, starring Ju Jingyi and directed by Guo Jingming, in Hengdian. The actors fled in panic as the flames engulfed the set. The news spread quickly online, sparking attention and discussions.
In the video captured at the scene, the burning house sent flames shooting into the sky, illuminating the night. The fire was fierce, with thick smoke billowing continuously. Guo Jingming and the actors could be seen shouting and fleeing, eventually escaping halfway up the mountainside. Despite the chaotic scene, fortunately, everyone emerged unharmed.
According to mainland media reports, the fantasy drama “Moon Scale Fantasy” stars Ju Jingyi alongside Zeng Shunxi, Chen Duling, Tian JiaRui, and others. They were preparing to film a campfire scene when the fire suddenly got out of control, accidentally igniting nearby buildings.
Videos of Ju Jingyi and her backup dancers fleeing from the fire after the outbreak were also exposed. Ju Jingyi quickly evacuated the scene, occasionally looking back to assess the situation of the blaze.
Following the fire, the Hengdian government and local fire department stated that they had not received any notification. Guo Jingming’s team reassured the public, saying, “No one was injured, everyone is fine, only a thatched hut was burnt down.”
Although Guo Jingming’s response appeared nonchalant, netizens who watched the fire video couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief after the incident.
Contrary to Guo Jingming’s statement of only one thatched hut being affected, the video showed several interconnected wooden rooms catching fire. It seemed like temporary structures, but there were no visible efforts by anyone at the scene to extinguish the fire.
Speaking of recent accidents on film sets in mainland China, netizens remarked that there have been quite a few. For instance, on a previous set, during the filming of a scene where a stunt double was being rescued by a police car on the road, a driver’s mistake led to an actress sustaining an arm injury. The incident was captured on a leaked video, showing the tire even hitting the actress’s head, prompting an apology statement from the production team.
On March 17th, another mishap occurred during the filming of “Southern Files”, where a crew member fell into the water due to an equipment mishap but was rescued by other staff members.
Chinese media suggested that the fire on Guo Jingming’s set was likely due to the lack of fire extinguishers on-site and mismanagement.
