Law Man Yiu Moves to Hosting Industry, Singing Hakka Songs Earns Recognition as “Charming”

Renowned Hakka singer and host, Wing Lo, has been devoted to promoting Hakka culture through popular language. Recently, he has been actively promoting the web program “Hakka Eats,” which he hosts and plans. He has made appearances on popular variety shows hosted by Hu Gua, Jacky Wu, and Dee Hsu.

Both Hu Gua and Jacky Wu are Hakka people, which made Wing Lo feel a strong connection. The content of the programs often revolves around Hakka themes. In a special episode of “Dee,” Lo performed the Hakka song “Teaching Shan the Wind,” leaving Dee mesmerized by his charm and talent in singing in the Hakka dialect. She couldn’t help but praise, “Wing Lo, you are even more captivating when singing in Hakka. How is that possible?”

In response, Wing Lo humorously replied, “Of course, I win people over with my face.” This witty exchange left Dee surprised, prompting her to swiftly change the topic, making for an entertaining moment.

“Hakka Eats” hosted by Wing Lo is an online program aimed at promoting Hakka language and culture. It is regularly updated on Facebook and YouTube channels. With 15 episodes already aired, the show features guest appearances from various celebrities, influencers, and artisans, making it both educational and entertaining. The show even traveled to Okayama City, Japan, where Wing Lo and his co-host, Huang Muyan, met the only bamboo flute player in Japan.

During the Japan episode, Wing Lo performed the Hakka song “Yan Lou Qing Feng” in a hotel, a touching tribute to his mother. The song resonated with a waitress at the hotel restaurant, who, despite not understanding the Hakka language, was moved by Wing Lo’s voice. After hearing the backstory of the song dedicated to his mother, the waitress was so touched that she embraced Wing Lo lovingly and even pinched his cheeks, treating him like her own son.

Reflecting on this emotional moment, Wing Lo remarked, “The waitress must have recalled her own children.” He was pleased that his Hakka songs could evoke such deep emotions across borders.

Wing Lo admitted to struggling with camera shyness and stage fright while promoting on television in the past. However, participation in the show “Hakka Eats” has made him feel more relaxed and confident on television, gradually becoming at ease. He attributed this positive change to hosting the program. Pleased with the positive feedback from the previous season of the show, Wing Lo is excited to continue contributing to promoting Hakka culture in the upcoming season of “Hakka Eats.”
