Laura Trump: Trump’s Return to Butler Important for Reconciliation

The Republican National Committee (RNC) co-chair Lara Trump stated on Sunday, October 6th, that the return of former President Donald Trump to Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was attacked nearly three months ago, to attend a rally is crucial for reconciliation within the United States.

In an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” program on Sunday, Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Trump and leader of the RNC, said, “Yesterday in Butler was truly a wonderful moment, and I believe it’s very important for the reconciliation of this country.”

On Saturday night, Lara also attended the rally held by Donald Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, in Butler. Previously, on July 13th, the former president was subjected to an attempted assassination at the same location, with a bullet piercing the upper part of his right ear. Following the incident, leaders from both parties, including Trump, called for unity, with many Americans condemning violence and reflecting on the political divisions within the nation.

During the Sunday interview, Lara stated, “I don’t think any of us will forget – regardless of whether you like Donald Trump or not – how you felt when you heard what happened to him on July 13th. When something like that happens in a country, it causes emotional trauma.”

On Saturday night, Trump returned to Butler, nearly three months after the attack, to hold a campaign rally at the same spot. Alongside Lara, attendees included Trump’s running mate JD Vance, tech billionaire Elon Musk, Lara’s husband Eric Trump, and the family of Corey Comperatore, a former Pennsylvania firefighter hailed for his “heroic sacrifice” who was fatally shot while protecting his wife and daughter during the July 13th rally.

Lara, in the interview with CNN’s “State of the Union,” remarked, “I can tell you that when we landed yesterday, I was a bit emotional. I had the honor of sitting next to Helen Comperatore, widow of Corey Comperatore, and their two daughters, which was a truly heartwarming tribute.”

“I believe that Donald Trump going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, to create new memories for the people there is important, and that’s exactly what you saw yesterday,” she added, speaking to CNN host Dana Bash.
