On the May 1st holiday in mainland China, many people went out to travel. On May 1st, a netizen posted a video claiming to have visited the Chishui Danxia Grand Waterfall Scenic Area in Guizhou and encountered a landslide near the scenic area, resulting in multiple cars being hit.
The circulated video shows a mountain road filled with parked cars, with the cliffside collapsing and large rocks rolling down, hitting several vehicles parked by the mountain.
According to the report by Upstream News, the location of the landslide is about 1.7 kilometers away from the scenic area. On the morning of May 2nd, a tourist named Ms. Xie said that on May 1st, when she arrived at the scenic area by car, the parking lot was already full. She parked her car on the road under the guidance of the staff. “After my boyfriend and I parked the car, we headed towards the scenic area. Within a few minutes, a protruding rock above the road fell down.”
Ms. Xie mentioned that it was 3:45 pm when the incident occurred, and the cars that were hit were those parked by the roadside with no people inside.
Another tourist, Mr. Yang, also said that while walking towards the scenic area, he suddenly heard a rumbling sound and saw rocks on the mountain splitting and falling down. He quickly grabbed his daughter and mother and ran. “My mother’s legs and feet were scratched by gravel, fortunately without serious injuries. My daughter got a scrape on her elbow, but I was unharmed.”
Chishui Grand Waterfall is located in the southern part of Chishui City, Guizhou Province, on the upper reaches of Fengxi River, a tributary of Chishui River. It is the largest waterfall in China’s Danxia landforms and the largest waterfall in the Yangtze River basin.
On the evening of May 1st, the Chishui City Transportation Bureau issued a notice stating that around 4 pm on May 1st, a rock collapse occurred at the 16.8 km mark on Fengxiang Road in Lianghekou Town of Chishui City, damaging 4 vehicles, with no confirmed casualties.
On May 2nd, the customer service staff at the Chishui Danxia Grand Waterfall Scenic Area in Guizhou stated that the landslide occurred outside of the scenic area, and the road has now been restored to normal traffic flow, with the scenic area operating as usual.
