Lai Ming-Wei’s Debut Solo Performance with Support from Wen Lan, Recalling Tears of a Son for Deceased Girlfriend.

Singer Lai Mingwei, the champion of a singing talent show, held his first solo concert at Legacy Taipei on the 22nd. As he sang the song “Wings,” he shed tears on stage, remembering his girlfriend who had been by his side for nine years but passed away from cancer four years ago.

For this special concert, Lai Mingwei prepared all the songs he had performed and competed with in the past 16 years since his debut. Former colleagues like Liang Wenyin, Ye Weiting, and Lai Shengen sat in the audience to show their support. Lai Mingwei even joked, “Raise your hand if you think the champion back then should have been Liang Wenyin!”, causing laughter among the audience.

Lai Mingwei kicked off the night with an acapella performance of “You Are My Eyes” from a previous competition, showcasing his singing prowess. He then performed a medley of 28 songs including “Little Law Drum,” “I Sing Loud,” and “Rock Palace,” igniting the atmosphere in the venue.

Later on, fellow Tayal indigenous singer Wen Lan showed her support by joining Lai Mingwei as a special guest performer, singing the classic karaoke song “On the Roof” together. Their duet created the most exhilarating climax of the concert. Wen Lan appeared in a Tayal outfit, displaying the strong friendship between the two as they held hands and sang, causing the fans to scream with excitement.

Both being Cancer signs, the two celebrated each other’s birthdays on stage, amidst blessings from the audience, singing birthday songs together.

Lai Mingwei delivered a series of hit songs that night, showcasing his folk singer style with his own guitar accompaniment.

Towards the end of the concert, he performed his original songs “Eternal Incense” and the encore “If There is Still Tomorrow.” He also sang the song “Living for You” by his former duo group “Shenmu and Tong,” with Huang Meizhen, bringing the concert to a rousing finale, emphasizing his commitment to singing in the original key, and concluding the night on a high note.

Several notable figures attended the event, including Lin Junyi, who was recently nominated for the “Golden Melody 35” Taiwanese Song King award, and veteran artist Lang Zujun. Yvonne, who had performed on stage with Lai Mingwei many times, not only listened to the entire concert but also praised him on Facebook, saying, “He faces the stage with ease, full of energy, perfect voice, taking us on a journey through his 16-year career.”
