Lai Ching-te to convene meeting with heads of five ministries to discuss national policies and enhance coordination and cooperation.

Taiwan’s Presidential Office spokesperson, Guo Yahui, announced in response to the serious challenges in domestic and international political and economic situation, that President of the Republic of China is scheduled to convene the heads of the five Yuan at the Presidential Office on the 10th at 3 p.m. to discuss national policies and enhance inter-Yuan coordination and cooperation.

Guo Yahui emphasized that as the head of state, President Lai Ching-te deeply feels the people’s earnest expectation for social unity and stability, reconciliation between different factions, and Taiwan’s progress and development. Therefore, during the Lunar New Year holiday, President Lai instructed the Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, Pan Meng-an, to meticulously coordinate arrangements. He hopes that through the consultation on national policies, placing the well-being of the people as a priority, constructing communication bridges between the five Yuan, consolidating consensus among different factions, will smoothly advance national policies and keep the country moving forward.

The Executive Yuan spokesperson, Li Huizhi, expressed gratitude for President Lai’s initiative to convene the meeting of the heads of the five Yuan for consultation. Premier Su Tseng-chang has repeatedly stressed that with the rapid changes in the international situation, Taiwan must unite and trust each other to maintain its leading position internationally.

Li Huizhi stated that the Executive Yuan hopes that through this consultation, inter-Yuan coordination and cooperation can be enhanced, the greatest consensus can be reached, unity can be achieved among each other, allowing all sectors to have better development. Together, they will work towards strengthening Taiwan and making it an indispensable member of the world.

According to reports from the Central News Agency, regarding the invitation for the five Yuan to consult on national policies, the Secretary-General of the Control Yuan, Li Chun-yi, expressed that the Control Yuan is severely affected by the significant cuts in this year’s central government budget and it has affected the Control Yuan’s exercise of constitutional rights, such as commission investigations, inspections, handling of public petitions, as well as the resumption of manual processing of property declarations. This opportunity will be seized to express the difficulties faced by the Control Yuan.

According to the Control Yuan, the budget for operational expenses has been cut and frozen, amounting to over NT$190 million (about US$6.08 million), and general administrative expenses totaling NT$90.376 million (about US$2.89 million) have also been completely eliminated, affecting the execution of the Control Yuan’s constitutional duties, public official property declarations, political contributions, and disciplinary actions.

Article 44 of the Constitution of the Republic of China stipulates that in case of disputes between the Yuans unless otherwise specified by the Constitution, the President can convene the relevant heads of the Yuans to resolve the issues.
