Lai Ching-te presides over official promotion, hopes to establish effective defense capabilities for Taiwan

President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Lai Ching-te, presided over the “Promotion Ceremony for Officials of July 114 of the Republic of China” today, emphasizing the importance of building a strong defense capability to safeguard national sovereignty and democratic freedoms.

In the morning, President Lai Ching-te chaired the promotion ceremony, with attendees including Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, Pan Meng-an; Secretary-General of the National Security Council, Wu Zhao-xie; Minister of National Defense, Koo Li-hsiung; Chief of the General Staff, Me Jiangshu; Navy Commander Tang Hua; and Air Force Commander Zheng Rong-feng.

During his address, President Lai Ching-te expressed sincere congratulations to the newly promoted generals. He noted that the promotion to a new rank not only signifies increased responsibilities but also reflects the country’s high expectations for each individual. He encouraged the generals to continue improving and leading the armed forces to progress.

President Lai congratulated General Xie Junshan on his promotion to Major General. During his tenure as Director of the Air Force Data Center, General Xie oversaw the implementation of the “Cloud Service System Construction Project,” promoting digital innovation and transformation of the information system, laying a solid foundation for the country’s defense information capabilities.

President Lai Ching-te congratulated Cheng Yung-hsi, Chung Kun-chang, and Liu Yuteng on their promotion to Brigadier General. The three generals have shown dedication in various aspects, including promoting Taiwan’s military exchanges with friendly nations, enhancing F-16 combat capabilities and subsequent training programs, integrating the tri-service air defense system, precise firepower strikes, and prioritizing target interception tasks, continuously strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

“I want to thank everyone for your efforts and dedication. Faced with a changing international landscape and threats, our defense reform must accelerate. In addition to actively replacing and upgrading main battle equipment, we must also plan to acquire various types of unmanned systems to enhance defense capabilities and tactical flexibility through technological applications,” said Lai Ching-te.

President Lai expressed his hope that the newly promoted generals would act flexibly and pragmatically, combining environmental conditions to effectively plan training, deployment, and tactics, demonstrating the practicality of emerging forces and establishing a reliable defense capability to safeguard national sovereignty and democratic freedoms.

He also thanked the families of the promoted officials for their support and understanding, grateful for their contribution to ensuring the military’s peace of mind. This July is “National Unity Month,” with the annual Hankuang Exercise set to commence and the “2025 Urban Resilience Exercise” underway. Through these exercises, he aims to demonstrate Taiwan’s determination and capabilities for self-defense to the world. Congratulations once again to all the newly promoted officials.
