President of the Republic of China, Tsai Ing-Wen, on the afternoon of the 2nd, met with the “Japan-Taiwan Relations Research Group” from the University of Tokyo, thanking the delegation for their longstanding concern for the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, and looking forward to deepening Taiwan-Japan cooperation and friendship through exchanges.
President Tsai Ing-Wen expressed in her speech that she was pleased to once again welcome Professor Yasuhiro Matsuda and friends from the Japanese academic community at the Presidential Office, and thanked the “University of Tokyo- Taiwan Relations Research Group” for their long-standing attention to the stability in the Taiwan Strait and peace in the Indo-Pacific region.
Tsai Ing-Wen pointed out that Taiwan and Japan have close relations, thanking the Japanese government for repeatedly emphasizing the importance of peace in the Taiwan Strait to the Indo-Pacific region on various international occasions, and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga for expressing condolences and support to Taiwan for the recent typhoon and heavy rain disasters. She looks forward to further strengthening Taiwan-Japan friendship and cooperation through in-depth exchanges with the delegation.
Professor Yasuhiro Matsuda expressed his gratitude to President Tsai for meeting with the delegation. He pointed out that the members of the delegation have long been concerned, observed, and understood Taiwan’s politics, economy, and cross-strait relations, and are very much looking forward to subsequent exchanges on Taiwan-Japan related issues.
The visiting delegation also included Satoshi Sato, Senior Director of the Institute of Asian Economies at the Japan External Trade Organization, Professor Momoko Kawakami from Kanagawa University, Professor Namiko Etou from Gakushuin University, Professor Ryo Monzen from Takushoku University, Research Fellow Chen Sihua and Huang Weixiu from the University of Tokyo.
