Knife attack at Hamburg Central Station in Germany leaves 12 injured.

On Friday evening (May 23), a stabbing incident occurred at Hamburg Central Station in Germany, resulting in 12 people being injured, with 3 in critical condition and facing life-threatening situations.

According to a spokesperson from the Hamburg Fire Department who spoke with Agence France-Presse (AFP), a total of 12 people were injured, some of whom are in critical condition.

Reports from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) indicate that 3 individuals are in critical condition, with an additional 3 sustaining serious injuries.

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a 39-year-old woman, while a large-scale search operation is still ongoing.

The attack took place around 6 p.m. local time on Friday at Hamburg’s Central Station.

Hamburg police posted on social media platform X, stating, “Based on preliminary investigation results, one individual is suspected of wielding a knife and harming several people at Central Station.”

“The suspect has been apprehended,” the police wrote.

Subsequently, the police added that they believe the woman acted alone.

Local media reports suggest that the attack occurred near platforms 13 and 14, which are situated close to a busy main road, with a train parked at one of the platforms at the time.

Upon the arrival of emergency personnel, critically injured individuals were stretchered off and taken to the hospital for treatment, while some victims received medical attention on the train.

Hamburg Central Station is one of Germany’s busiest transportation hubs. According to data from its website, the station accommodates over 550,000 passengers daily, particularly crowded during the Friday evening rush hour.
