Paramount announced on the 20th that the highly popular American drama “Yellowstone” Season 5 Part 2 final chapter is set to premiere on November 10, 2024, on Paramount+. Just a few hours later, the lead actor of the show, Kevin Costner, publicly stated that he will not be appearing in the latter half of the fifth season or in any future sequels.
In “Yellowstone,” Kevin Costner plays the powerful and complex patriarch of the ranching family, John Dutton. He took to his Instagram account to share a video announcing his departure from the second half of the fifth season, putting an end to all rumors circulating online about his potential return.
Costner said, “Giving you the latest, we’ll see you at the movies.” Costner confirmed his exit from the TV series “Yellowstone.” He has been working on the American epic western film “Horizon: An American Saga,” the first part of a planned four-movie series that he writes, directs, and stars in.
“I wanted to tell you, let you know, in this long year and a half, I’ve been working on ‘Horizon,’ doing everything that needed to be done, and also thinking about ‘Yellowstone,’ this series that I love, that I know you love. I just realized, I can’t continue with the second half of the fifth season or any future work,” Costner stated.
Costner invited fans to join him in his new movie, saying, “It has really changed me, I love it, I know you love it too. I just want you to know, I won’t be coming back, I enjoy the relationship we’ve built, we’ll see you in the movies.”
According to “The Wrap,” the original plan was to air six episodes of Season 5 Part 2 in 2023, but due to a writers’ strike at the time, the script for the show was still incomplete. Shortly after, scheduling conflicts arose between Costner and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, as Costner hoped the production schedule could accommodate the filming of “Horizon.”
Currently, Costner has completed the first two parts of “Horizon,” with “Chapter One” set to premiere later this month and “Chapter Two” scheduled for release on August 16th.
