Keelung’s First Pet Park Opens in Nuannuan to Long-Awaited Citizen Anticipation

The Keelung City Government has created the first pet-friendly “Nuan Nuan Pet Park” in the Nuan Nuan Sports Park. On the morning of the 9th, it was officially opened by Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang, Keelung City Council Speaker Tong Ziwei, and several council members. Many pet owners also brought their furry friends to the park to play joyfully. Ms. Lu, who has six dogs, exclaimed how wonderful it is and that it should have opened sooner.

A certain food company executive heard about the opening of the pet park and expressed her excitement to visit as soon as possible. However, living in Zhongzheng District, she mentioned that the park is a bit far for her. She mentioned that it would be great if a pet park could be established at Bisha Fishing Harbor.

Mayor Xie Guoliang emphasized that being pet-friendly is an indicator of a progressive city. The Nuan Nuan Pet Park is Keelung’s first pet-friendly activity space, with plans for a second pet park and even indoor pet spaces under evaluation. He expressed the ambition to expand to various districts in Keelung. This idea received strong support from Speaker Tong Ziwei, who shared his experiences of raising dogs while in junior high school.

Mayor Xie Guoliang also mentioned his deep sadness regarding the recent unfortunate incident of a garbage truck running over a dog. He has instructed relevant authorities to handle the matter seriously, investigate the truth, and hopes to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

The Keelung City Government’s Industrial Development Department stated that the facilities within the “Nuan Nuan Pet Park” are designed to meet the needs of sports and leisure enthusiasts, pet owners, and pets. The park is divided into two areas: a large dog area of 180 square meters and a small dog area of 140 square meters. Safety fences, double-gated entrances and exits, spacious lawns, play tunnels, wave decking, and other recreational facilities are available for pets to run and play freely. There are also wash basins for pets to clean up after playing.

To prevent pets from running out of the parents’ sight, protective nets, leash hooks, and resting seats are provided. This setup allows parents to sit together, chat, and interact with their furry companions. Additionally, there are dog waste bins and bags available throughout the park, encouraging everyone to maintain a clean environment together.

Councilor Zhang Zhihao shared that because his child loves dogs, he often takes the kids to pet parks in other counties and cities. Councilor He Shuping mentioned that she had fought for a pet park two years ago with Mayor Lin Youchang and was pleased to see Mayor Xie inaugurating the park today. She hopes that pet owners will make good use of the park’s facilities and work together to maintain cleanliness and order in the park.
