Keanu Reeves Voices for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” Meeting Fan Expectations

The producer of the live-action “Sonic the Hedgehog” film series, Toby Asher, recently revealed that much of the plot for the third movie is inspired by the 2001 video game “Sonic Adventure 2”. In this upcoming film, the character Shadow the Hedgehog will be voiced by Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves.

The live-action movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is set to be released in the United States on December 20, 2024. According to reports from foreign media, Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in “The Matrix” and “John Wick” series, has been invited by Paramount Pictures to voice Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”. The film will also feature the song “Live and Learn” from “Sonic Adventure 2”.

According to Box Office Mojo, the first film in the series released in 2020 and its sequel in 2022 earned a global box office revenue of $319 million and $405 million respectively. While the films received mixed reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes with 64% and 69% ratings, audiences loved them, giving them high freshness ratings of 93% and 96% respectively.

Since the release of the second movie in 2022, social media has been buzzing with a clip of Reeves voicing Shadow. The video, captioned “What if Keanu Reeves voiced Shadow?”, garnered enthusiastic responses from netizens such as “Yes, that would be insane,” “Looks amazing,” “Wow, that’s intense,” and “This is what I hoped for XD”. Reeves voicing Shadow has now become a reality, fulfilling years of anticipation among fans. Many users expressed their surprise in the comments, saying, “Tell me how you did it,” “Keanu Reeves for real!!”, “How did you manage this?”, “Thank you for predicting this,” and “Fortune teller!”

In addition to Reeves, the voice cast of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” includes Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and others.

Speaking to “GamesRadar” on the 21st, producer Toby Asher said, “This may be the most exciting thing we’ve done in the Sonic series. It’s going to be a huge, fun, incredibly amazing movie. It’s clear that this film draws a lot from ‘Sonic Adventure 2’ and some games. I know the core members of the Sonic team have loved these games since they were young.”
