KARA’s Jiyoung Cries After Being Treated Impatiently by Elderly, Hopes for Assistance

South Korean girl group KARA member Kang Ji-young shared a lengthy post on her personal official Instagram account on the evening of the 23rd, recounting her experience while handling driver’s license-related matters that day.

Ji-young expressed that she witnessed a woman being treated impatiently while going through procedures, which saddened her. She expressed her hope to create a guide for elders dealing with paperwork compassionately.

Before heading to the police station to handle driver’s license-related documents, Ji-young first searched online on her phone for the necessary items and made preparations. Upon arrival, she took a number ticket and had to fill out additional forms on the spot. Despite her usual forgetfulness, she managed to submit the documents smoothly in the end.

However, at that moment, she noticed a middle-aged woman at the neighboring window. Due to the close proximity, she overheard the conversation between the woman and the counter staff. She learned that the woman had come to renew her driver’s license and was asked if she had undergone health and vision checks. When she informed the staff about her vision, she was bluntly told that her vision didn’t meet the standard for processing that day and she’d either need to get glasses immediately or come back another time, leaving the woman bewildered.

Ji-young wrote, “I was deeply saddened at the thought that if the woman next to me was my mother, what would I do? If I saw the counter staff being impatient like that, and I saw my mother not knowing how to proceed, I think my heart would break.”

She continued to say that some might think it’s not a big deal, but with the rapid development of many applications recently, even she finds it hard to keep up. Seeing such a situation, she felt that for the woman, faced with the dilemma of “I just don’t know what to do” and “I wish someone could explain a bit more,” the impatience of the counter staff made her so angry that she cried, and even trembled when she got home.

Not only that, Ji-young also proposed improvements. She suggested creating an easy-to-understand guide for the elderly with larger font sizes for their convenience. While a lot of information can be accessed online or on smartphones, it might be difficult for the elderly, hence her desire to be involved in the production of such guides.

Ji-young concluded by saying, “I know not everyone agrees with my thoughts, and it’s okay if you don’t understand. I wish everyone health and happiness,” and ended the post with, “This is an article uploaded with a daughter’s heart, thinking of our parents. Thank you all!!”

After the post was released, many netizens praised Ji-young for her thoughtfulness towards the elderly. That evening, Ji-young also expressed gratitude for everyone’s warm sentiments through her temporary stories and wished everyone a pleasant night.
