Kaohsiung nighttime market brings out the beauty of Taiwanese culture.

On the afternoon of August 16th, last Saturday, the De Anza College night market officially opened at 3 p.m., attracting a large number of people to participate. The organization “Sincerely Love Taiwan” set up a booth to promote community culture, selling Taiwan Sugar Orchids to showcase Taiwan’s agricultural products and express a strong belief in integrating Taiwanese culture into mainstream society through practical actions.

Before the opening speeches, the 120-member dance troupe led by Teacher Chen Ping performed two dances, “Sapphire” and “Azizam,” with dynamic rhythms and elegant movements, instantly igniting the enthusiasm of the entire audience. A representative from the parliament recalled memories of attending night markets in high school, praising the diverse atmosphere created by the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. The newly appointed director of Santa Clara County, Margaret Abe-Koga, said, “As the District Five Director, I am honored to participate in this vibrant night market, which showcases the inclusivity and diversity of Cupertino.”

Mayor of Cupertino, Zhao Liangfang, expressed gratitude to the Chamber of Commerce, sponsors, and especially the volunteers in her speech. She said, “Thank you to all volunteers and sponsors; this night market symbolizes community unity. Please visit the booths, provide feedback, and make next year even more exciting!” In an interview with the reporter, Mayor Zhao further elaborated on the significance of the night market: “We hope to attract more Asian businesses, especially from Taiwan, mainland China, and other regions, to showcase their products and culture here. Whether they are already established locally or not, they can find a place at the night market to promote business and cultural exchange.” She especially mentioned the booth of “Sincerely Love Taiwan” and praised their sale of Taiwan Sugar Orchids, allowing people to experience the Taiwanese charm at home.

President of “Sincerely Love Taiwan,” Gao Chunhui, shared the three main objectives of participating in this event in an interview with the reporter: caring for fellow villagers, promoting Taiwan, and integrating into the mainstream. She said, “We chose Taiwan Sugar Orchids because they represent the exquisite craftsmanship of Taiwan’s agriculture. They were delivered directly from Taiwan Sugar Company that morning, in full bloom, symbolizing the beauty of Taiwan.” This was the first time “Sincerely Love Taiwan” participated in this event, and they plan to engage in more mainstream activities in the future, interact with the Indian and Israeli communities, and expand the influence of Taiwanese culture. President Gao humorously remarked, “There were more volunteers than visitors that day, but the crowd will swell in the evening; this is the starting point for promoting Taiwan!”

At the night market, musician Mark Victoria’s guitar performance added a melodious tune to the event, while food trucks and diverse performances kept people entertained and captivated.

From the fragrant Taiwan Sugar Orchids to the enthusiasm of the volunteers, “Sincerely Love Taiwan” conveyed their love for their homeland through action. With the twinkling lights of the night market, Taiwanese culture is striving to shine brightly in mainstream society.
