In a delightful incident at Melbourne Airport in Australia recently, a wild kangaroo unintentionally found its way into an outdoor parking lot adjacent to the airport. To everyone’s surprise, parked behind the kangaroo was a plane belonging to Qantas Airways, the Australian airline with a kangaroo logo. This coincidental and amusing scene captured the attention of netizens after being shared online.
According to a post published on Monday (November 11) on the official Facebook page of Melbourne Airport, an adult wild kangaroo mistakenly entered the T123 parking lot on the 6th floor that day.
The photos show the kangaroo appearing confused about its surroundings, standing motionless in front of a parking space with the airport runway visible not far behind it. At that moment, two Qantas Airways planes were conveniently parked on the runway, with the kangaroo logo prominently displayed on the red and white tail fins.
As many would recognize, the iconic symbol of Qantas Airways features a white kangaroo leaping inside a red triangle, hence the nickname “The Flying Kangaroo” that the airline has long been associated with.
Following the exposure of this rare and humorous juxtaposition in the photos, it immediately captured the interest of a large number of netizens. Many people commented below the post, saying things like, “What a perfect flying kangaroo advertisement!” “This kangaroo must be the CEO of Qantas.” “Adding new meaning to the Flying Kangaroo (referring to Qantas Airways).” “Perhaps it missed its Qantas flight.” “It must be ground staff, getting ready to unload luggage.” “The best spokesperson.”
Reportedly, upon learning about the kangaroo’s presence, Melbourne Airport staff promptly went to the scene to handle the situation. They first blocked off the parking lot and then contacted Wildlife Victoria, a wildlife rescue organization, for assistance. With the patient guidance and escort from both staff and wildlife rescuers, the kangaroo that mistakenly wandered into the airport was safely returned to its natural habitat in the wild.
