Judge Rushed to Conclude Pre-trial Meeting in Jiangsu Yang’s Rights Case Arrested for Economic Crime

【Epoch Times April 11, 2025 News】Residents of Jintan District in Jiangsu Province, the case of the detained petitioner Yang Li, the pre-trial meeting at Jintan District Court on April 7 revealed the absence of factual evidence proving the defendant’s crime, with only testimonies from public security and government officials involved in intercepting, and the judge refused to play the video evidence provided by the defendant. The meeting ended abruptly.

Yang Li and her mother Xu Dongqing petitioned against the illegal requisition of land by the Jintan District government for rights protection. On October 12 and 19, 2024, the mother and daughter were ordered to be arrested by Jiangsu officials when they went to Beijing seeking help from Xi Jinping near Zhongnanhai. On November 26 of the same year, Yang Li was arrested by the Jintan District Procuratorate of Changzhou City for “disrupting the work order of state organs,” and indicted from January 24, 2025.

The case was brought to a pre-trial meeting at Jintan District Court on April 7, 2025. Yang Li’s sister, Yang Caiying, who resides in Japan, said that on that day outside the court, Jintan authorities sent a construction vehicle to pretend construction work and pulled up a cordon, preventing people from approaching.

On April 7, the case of “disrupting the work order of state organs” for Yang Li was brought to a pre-trial meeting at Jintan District Court.

After the pre-trial meeting, the defendant’s lawyer stated in the report that the incidents occurred near Zhongnanhai in Beijing and should be handled by the Beijing public security since there was no illegal behavior and no punishment was given by Beijing authorities. This case is a fabrication concocted by Jiangsu officials to suppress petitioners. Due to falsification by the Jintan Public Security and Jintan Procuratorate in a major land requisition case in that area, we exposed and accused them everywhere.

The lawyer filed a jurisdictional objection and recusal application, requesting Jintan Court to dismiss the case, or all judicial organs in Jiangsu to recuse themselves from this case, handing it over to Beijing public security or designated by the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme Procuratorate, and the Supreme Court.

Judge Wang Nannan remained silent on our objection and application, while Procurator Liu Zhan stated it can be handled by the local authorities. Regarding the testimonies of intercepting police and government officials, the lawyer pointed out they couldn’t be considered as evidence, but the prosecutor said they could. The lawyer also submitted video evidence of these individuals involved in the interception, which the judge refused to play, hastily ending the pre-trial meeting.

Yang Caiying introduced to Epoch Times that government officials and police who testified were all involved in Yang Li’s interception, abduction, assault, and false accusations, including Xu Gaojin from Jiangsu Xinfang Office stationed in Beijing, Jijunming, Deputy Director of Jintan District Judicial Bureau, Dai Quan, Deputy Director of Jintan District Xinfang Office, Jin Hui from Xicheng Street Political and Legal Committee in Jintan District, and government officials Guo Tao, intercepting personnel from Jintan District Public Security Bureau stationed in Beijing, Ni Weibing, and Tang Xiaohui, as well as police officers Jiang Yecong, Ni Jie, Wang Linyu, and Gu Suohong from Binhu Police Station of Jintan Sub-bureau of Changzhou Public Security Bureau.

She said, “On April 17, 2024, in Beijing, my mother and sister were pushed down and beaten by a group of Jintan Public Security until they cried for help at Jiujingzhuang. Gu Suohong said later, ‘The leader ordered the beating, had to be done.’ Several government officials from Jintan District Judicial Bureau, Planning Bureau, and Human Resources Bureau also participated in testifying in persecution. It is evident that the Jiangsu area uses all public power to suppress and persecute rights protection petitioners.”

During the pre-trial meeting, the thirteen video evidence of interception and abduction by local authorities provided by the defendants were examined. Among them, video 1 was on April 17, 2024, where Ni Weibing and Tang Xiaohui intercepted and redirected Xu Dongqing and Yang Li heading to Beijing for treatment at Beijing South Station. Videos 2 were on June 12, 2023, where Jiang Yecong and government officials followed Xu Dongqing and Yang Li to Beijing for treatment, and directed by the hospital’s black security to assault and abduct them back to Jintan. Videos 3 and 4 were on July 15, 2024, when Yang Li and her father Yang Guoliang went to Beijing for treatment, followed by Jintan Public Security all the way, and after reaching Beijing South Station, they were abducted.

Yang Caiying expressed, “Jiangsu authorities are too thuggish; all the evidence used to convict my sister consists of personnel from the interception team and units we reported and accused, but none of the video evidence we provided was played by the judge.”

She also said, “In the future, we will prepare a defense and continue to report and accuse; this is a typical case of a criminal gang using public power to suppress and persecute petitioners who reported illegal acts.”
