A man in Xingan County, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province recently caught 108 bullets while fishing by the river, with experts confirming that although the bullets were rusty on the surface, they still posed a danger. The news quickly went viral.
According to a report by mainland media “Extreme News” on November 23, around 1 p.m. on November 18, Mr. Zeng from Xingan County was fishing in the Yijiang River water area along the south extension of Binjiang Avenue. When he was reeling in, he felt the fishing line was heavy, thinking he had caught a big fish. However, upon inspection, he found a white woven bag containing rows of bullets. Mr. Zeng quickly called the police after the discovery.
After confirming and tallying by relevant departments, it was found that the woven bag contained handgun bullets, rifle bullets, and others, totaling 108 rounds. Although some bullets were rusty on the surface, the integrity of the bullets remained, posing a certain level of danger.
Authorities also stated that these ammunition seemed to be historical remnants.
The conclusion of “historical remnants” by the authorities sparked discussions among netizens. Netizen “jjjyf” commented: “Since the white woven bag has not decomposed, it indicates that these bullets have not been submerged in the water for a long time.”
User “三吖子life” also pointed out: “If it’s from World War II, which is close to a hundred years, it would have 100% dissolved. This batch of bullets is probably from the late 80s or 90s after firearms were banned.”
“Nakayoshi” went on to mention: “Woven bags only started appearing in the 1950s.”
Netizen “水墨銀波” speculated: “It’s likely that someone privately hoarded these bullets and later, fearing exposure, disposed of them in the river.”
