Jiangsu Xuyi 3.3 Magnitude Earthquake Felt in Nanjing and Hefei

On August 14th at midnight, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck Xuyi County, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province, China, with several nearby cities feeling the tremors.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at 00:13 on August 14th in Xuyi County, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province, at a depth of 12 kilometers (33.03 degrees north latitude, 118.68 degrees east longitude).

Local residents expressed their experiences online, with one saying, “I am from Xuyi. It’s located in Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province. There was quite a strong tremor last night, and some people say there have been earthquakes for the past three days.” Another resident mentioned, “I’m from Xuyi. It shook several times.” And another person reported, “I’m 21 kilometers away from the epicenter. I felt like my house was hit by something with a loud bang, then the bed started shaking, and I felt dizzy.”

In addition to Xuyi County, tremors were also reported in cities such as Nanjing, Hefei, Yangzhou, and Huai’an.

Prior to this event, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Yu County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China on August 12th, while a earthquake of around 3.0 magnitude occurred near Tengchong City, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province.
