Jiangsu: Man Narrowly Avoids Disaster as Dozens of Meters Long Lifting Arm Collapses

On April 27, a crane in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province suddenly overturned, with its several-meter-long boom crashing down onto the road. A man narrowly escaped the disaster by swiftly dodging to the side, and the video of the incident has sparked heated discussions online.

According to reports from Sohu and Prosperous News, the accident occurred around 8 a.m. near the Nanjing Maternal and Child Health Hospital at a construction site. A yellow crane that was in operation suddenly toppled over, causing its long boom to crash onto the road next to the hospital building.

Footage from the scene shows that at that moment, a man in black was standing by a pile of construction materials on the roadside, looking down at his phone. Just in the nick of time, the man sensed something was wrong, looked up, and saw the boom descending from above. He quickly bent down to take cover in the corner of the materials, and the boom then thundered down onto the pile, raising a cloud of dust instantly. As numerous netizens worried about him, the man stood up from the dust and walked away.

According to local residents speaking to Prosperous News, “There was a huge thunderous sound, and I thought it was an earthquake. The boom is so long, it could be as tall as a 23-story building.”

Nanjing traffic police responded that no one was injured in the accident, and it did not affect traffic or nearby buildings. The specific cause of the accident and issues such as the crane’s operating qualifications and safety measures are currently under investigation.
